Chiropractic Is Safe For Seniors. Here’s Why.

As we increase in age, our spinal discs, facet joints, ligaments, muscles and other spinal tissues become weaker, more fibrotic, and less able to withstand normal stresses. It is part and parcel of life, and joint wear varies greatly from one person to another.

It is extremely important that we take extra care about our spines and ligaments as this will cause extra stress on the body. By doing so, we get to worry less about the condition of our spine and ligaments in the future. However, we must not forget that there are people of the silver generation who are also struggling with pain and discomfort in their spine or ligaments.

Therefore, is chiropractic care important for the seniors? You must understand that as the seniors grow with age, spinal degeneration, the arthritis, becomes more prominent. The simplest of accidents can cause tissue injuries, and the time to heal from them also increases. They are also at a greater risk of sustaining an injury from a fall. At least one out of four elderly have fallen each year.

Some might think that it is unsafe for the senior citizens to have chiropractic sessions because of the forceful manipulation techniques that are used. However, the techniques for elderly patients vary. Not one person is the same!

Chiropractic treatment is safe for those with arthritis or low bone density and osteoporosis. Adjustments include gentle, low force muscle and joint release. Gentle adjustments and mobilisation techniques are used for a safe and non-invasive treatments.

With regular chiropractic care, joint arthritis can be greatly improved. Chiropractic care helps to relieve the pain and discomfort that comes along with it.

Chiropractic also improves the health and immune system function by finding the releasing subluxations along the nervous system. When subluxations remain uncleared, the nervous system is unable to function in the way it is supposed to, and can prevent the brain from sending important messages to the body. With regular chiropractic check-ups, an elderly’s nervous system and immune system functions properly. This leads to lesser sick days and fewer chances of catching illnesses.

Another factor that accompanies getting older is increased joint degeneration. The vertebrae and disc in the spine can degenerate at a rapid pace when a misalignment in the spine occurs. Chiropractic care can slow down this process that prevents serious back issues from forming.

Thus, chiropractic is beneficial for the elderly as it helps to maintain balance and coordination to help minimise the risk of falls. As each human body is different, chiropractors ensure that the right treatment is used so that the spine and nervous system is functioning properly. Early chiropractic treatment is also useful for prevention of joint degeneration in the future.
